A charity event by the Rotary Club of Portorož
In 2013, the Rotary Club of Portorož successfully organised a musical competition for young people, drawing 197 participants from 19 countries. Together with the Koper Music School, we equally allocated all the profits from the event towards a scholarship for young musicians, from low income families, in the municipalities of Piran, Izola and Koper. We also enabled the locals and the winners of the competition to attend a free concert where they could showcase their talents and witness the performances of two world renowned classical musicians. We plan to do something similar in 2018.
From the 8 to 10 June 2018, we will organise a musical competition for violinists and pianists as well as a children’s basketball tournament. This event will link two of the most noble passions of youth, sport and music. The event will take place at various locations in Piran. We hope to attract 250 young participants from all over the world.
The purpose of this event is to promote our beautiful location, cultural awareness and sport successes. We aim to organise a scholarship, which will support two of our partner’s projects in the field of culture and sport, to enable young people from low income families to pursue their sporting and musical dreams.

SCHEDULE OF MUSIC COMPETITIONS
In Piran, you will feel as though you have stepped right into a picture postcard. You will be charmed by the narrow streets within the old town wall. In the main square, you will be greeted by the statue of the most famous man in Piran, the well-known Giuseppe Tartini, composer and virtuoso violinist who was born in a house just steps from the square. On the pier, you can catch sight of fisherman unravelling a fishing net. A market woman from Piran will have just delivered vegetables, fresh from her garden, to the market. Locals sitting by the sea, chatting and listening to sounds of the sea, greet you with a nod.
